Keynote Address on 'Innovation in Construction' by Kevin McCloud, Presenter of Channel 4's Grand Designs
The construction industry creates 10% of GDP across the UK, and affects everyone in all walks of life. Good construction can help promote quality of life, by using sustainable designs and material. It impacts on the nature, function and appearance of the communities and countryside in which we live and work.
Sustainability is of increasing importance to the efficient, effective and responsible operation of business. This is especially true in the construction industry as sustainable construction is a key element in becoming a socially responsible organisation. We need to minimise man's impact on the finite resources of our planet.
Innovation is a key driver of competitive advantage for the sector, therefore we need to work together in collaboration to help the industry develop and implement a shared vision and strategy for innovation. Green buildings are no longer a quirky one off, they are becoming the norm. Clients and occupiers expect buildings to be both environmentally sound and cost effective.
Keynote presenter, Kevin McCloud, accompanied by case study presentations from other regions leading the way in sustainable construction and updates on new legislation, ensures this conference is a must. Sustainability in construction is becoming an expectation and is likely to be required by legislation in the near future.
The conference will also feature a small exhibition and will close with a networking reception.
